Award-winning musician Daryl Davis earned a degree in Jazz and tours nationally and internationally with The Daryl Davis Band. After one of Daryl's performances, a man told him it was the first time he’d seen a Black man play piano like Jerry Lee Lewis. Daryl explained the Black origin of Lewis's style and the man became a fan. Turns out, he was a member of the Ku Klux Klan. This led to Daryl becoming the first Black author to interview KKK leaders and members, detailed in his book, Klan-Destine Relationships. Today, Daryl owns numerous Klan robes and hoods, given to him by active members who renounced their racist ideology after meeting him. As a Race Reconciliator and lecturer, Davis has received numerous awards and is often sought by CNN, MSNBC, NPR and other media outlets a consultant on race relations and White supremacy. In her talk, Caroline will give her insights on the tech industry diversity challenge. Data show that is not just a pipeline issue. 1 in 2 women leaves tech permanently after 10 years. The retention and promotion of female talents are a top priority in order to attract new ones. Caroline will give you the main reasons why women are running away from tech instead of attracting them and the best practices and actionable advice to fix it. For several years, Caroline has worked to advance women entrepreneurs in the digital economy. For the past three years, she has served as the Managing Director of WILLA (ex Paris Pionnières), the biggest incubator for female founders in Europe, and as the Deputy Head of the Digital Department of the City Hall of Paris. She is also a board member of the French UN Women National Committee. She is now CEO at 50inTech, where Caroline seeks to amplify the belief that women can change the face of the economy and that they are a huge and underused reservoir of growth.

Poet, novelist, and literary critic Garth Greenwell discusses his new book "Cleanness" and reads from its first story, "Mentor," which explores the trauma, heartache, and disillusionment experienced by a gay Bulgarian student as he comes to terms with his sexual orientation, and his gay American teacher's struggle to provide him emotional support and reassurance.
